When a renovation needs a Level 2 electrician

Older Newcastle homes often run on a small single-phase supply with overhead consumer mains that were installed decades ago. A renovation that adds ducted air conditioning, an induction cooktop, an EV charger or a second storey can exceed what that supply is rated for. In those cases the consumer mains, point of attachment, meter panel or private pole need to be upgraded, and that is Level 2 ASP work that only an Ausgrid-accredited provider can do. We assess this at the quote stage so it is priced up front rather than discovered halfway through.

  • Upgrading from single-phase to three-phase supply
  • Replacing overhead consumer mains or moving to an underground service

How we work with you and your builder

  1. Site visit and quote. We look at the existing switchboard and supply, walk the plans with you and give a fixed-price quote that lists inclusions and exclusions.
  2. Rough-in once walls are open, coordinated with your builder or done directly with you on an owner-managed job.
  3. Fit-off and testing after the finishes are in, with a CCEW issued for the work.
  4. Supply upgrade if required, scheduled with Ausgrid so the outage is short and planned.

Frequently asked questions

Will I need a switchboard upgrade?
If your board still has ceramic fuses, or no safety switches on the circuits being altered, the answer is usually yes. We can confirm at the site visit.

Can you work around my builder’s schedule?
Yes. Most of our renovation work is coordinated with builders across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie and we attend rough-in and fit-off when the program calls for it.

Do you provide certificates?
Every job receives a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. Level 2 work also has the Notification of Service Work lodged with Ausgrid by us.
