Level 2 work is priced by the job, not by the hour. That is the first thing to understand, because most of what you read online about “electrician hourly rates” does not apply to it.
A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is the only electrician allowed to work on the connection between your property and the Ausgrid network: the consumer mains, the point of attachment, private power poles, and disconnecting or reconnecting supply. That work needs Ausgrid paperwork, specific gear, and in many cases a second trip back to site. So the price is built up from the job, not the clock.
What a Level 2 job usually costs
- Disconnect and reconnect from $1,200. Single phase, one site visit, existing point of attachment reused. Two visits, or a new POA bracket and service fuses, from $2,200.
- Permanent Disconnection to Site from $650
- Private power pole from $3,500. Steel pole supplied, installed and connected, single phase, existing mains reused.
- Overhead consumer mains from $2,500. Single phase, one span, includes the disconnect and reconnect and POA. Three phase, long spans or tree clearing extra.
- Temporary builders supply from $4,500.
- Ausgrid defect notice quoted after photos. Most clearance and point of attachment defects are a one-visit job.
- Emergency Callout to Replace a Barge Fuse from $700.
Every one of those is a fixed price once we have seen the site or your photos. You get one figure, and that figure includes the Ausgrid coordination and the paperwork.
What pushes the price up or down
Overhead or underground. Underground is more work: trenching, conduit, pits, and often a Dial Before You Dig check. Overhead is quicker but depends on the pole, the clearances and the condition of the point of attachment.

The state of what is already there. Old consumer mains, a rusted point of attachment, a timber pole that has had its day. If the existing gear does not meet the current NSW Service and Installation Rules, it has to be brought up to standard while we are there. We tell you that before we start, not after.
Access. A pole at the front fence is one price. A pole down the back of a steep block with no vehicle access is another.
Ausgrid and the metering provider. Some jobs need Ausgrid to attend, and some need the metering provider to change or fit a meter. Those parties set their own timeframes and, in some cases, their own fees. We coordinate it, but we do not control it, so we tell you up front when a job depends on them.
Number of site visits. A straightforward disconnect and reconnect can be one visit. Some jobs need a disconnect, other trades in between, then a reconnect on a separate day. The quote reflects that.
Emergency or after hours. A pole down or a live conductor on the ground at 9 pm is priced differently to a planned job in daylight.
What is not Level 2 work
People often search “Level 2 electrician cost” when the job is actually general electrical: new power points, lighting, a new circuit inside the house. That is normal licensed electrical work and is priced as such. Level 2 only applies once the job touches the connection to the network. How to get an accurate quote
- Take three photos: your switchboard with the cover off (if it is safe to do so), the point where the power enters the property (pole, fascia bracket, or underground pit), and the run between the two.

Do Level 2 electricians charge by the hour? Not for Level 2 work. It is quoted as a fixed price per job because the work, the network approvals and the return visits are known in advance.
Why can’t my regular electrician do this? They can do everything inside the property. The connection to the Ausgrid network, including the consumer mains and the point of attachment, must be done by a Level 2 ASP. Many electricians subcontract that part to us.
Does the price include Ausgrid? Our price includes our work and the paperwork and all fees.
How long does it take? Planned jobs are usually scheduled within 2 weeks of the quote being accepted. Jobs that need Ausgrid attendance depend on their timeframe.
